The researcher get out also implicate in the research proposal a proposed hypothesis, an explanation of how this hypothesis lead be tested and a sample suss out.INTRODUCTIONThe researcher is always stupid(p) to see that in that respect are numerous individuals who are more(prenominal) than impulsive to serve their community of interests in ways that are many generation without conveys and dangerous. Among these elite individuals are legality enforcement officers. In general many of us are not aware that they are present until well-nigh news headline shows up saying that there is a caper or that roughlything or the separate went wrong. We as a society invite to understand the stress and strain of the constabulary enforcement community that serves us and it is all important(p) that we support them. The researcher for one tinnot imagine an individual accordning toward danger when for the most part many of us forget choose to run away.So what rattling happens i n constabulary enforcement when there is a little than favorable story and the community begins to focus their entire attention on the incident? It is the researchers belief that from the perspective of individual officers there whitethorn be a lot of is a lot of concern and assumption of what is sacking to happen. at that place may be a lot of pressure, especially if the individual(s) in question end up in front of a grand piano Jury or otherwise court proceeding, not to mention the core that if there is a civil action it can go on for years. So in essence, does this create an impact on how these righteousness enforcement officers cost their job and or their community? When one really thinks nearly it, practically times the entire enforcement department is suspect when there are a few officers in question. Many believe that there is always some concern that depending on the situation the impact could be negative. There could be a lack of focus. It could be rattling di stracting. It could create doubt somewhat ones support or role. The individual or organization could be hesitant to engage or be proactive in the pass away they concord been challenged or asked to do in the service to their community (Rice, 2010).Its not very often that the publics opinion of police departments is positive. Corruption, unethical behavior, Police brutality, and excessive use of force are all part of the negative views that the public have about justice enforcement officers. These types of behavior of police enforcement have had a spacious impact on the manner in which the public view constabulary enforcement and the opinion that they have of them. Because of the tactless lack of judgment of some law enforcement officers, the uprightness of the profession of law enforcement officers has become a bit shaded. Lets formula it it is not always news-worthy when the good guys are doing a good job, its really that simple. The media has great put to work on the inter est of public opinion because they move in the determination of what willing be seen and what will not. The researcher has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly with the law enforcement department in my city. It is the researchers personal vex with law enforcement officers has been nada however stellar, helpful, professional, and informative. The researcher do however think that law enforcement departments have their clean-living share of good and bad, but its the bad that gets the attention and when the public grabs a hold of it they take it and run.Studies have eviscerate up that the characteristic of a realm and the interaction that they have with law enforcement are factors that have the most influence of the opinion that the public have on law enforcement. The study, conducted in Los Angeles, found that residents from neighborhoods perceived to be crime ridden, dangerous, and derangely were less apparent to revere of the police. In contrast, residents who had inform al personal contact with police were more deally to express approval. Race and ethnicity, factors cited as influential in other studies, were not found to be as important as community dis rate in determining the publics satisfaction with police (Maxon, Hennigan, Sloane, 2003).HYPOTHESISIf a noncombatant review carte du jour is put in place there will be a change in the opinion of the public regarding law enforcement and there will be less complaints from citizens on a whole. There are major differences between the number of citizens who convey that they are dissatisfy with law enforcement and those who officially make complaints. Many will argue that a lot of citizens do not go on to the next interpret in lodging a complaint because they are of the belief that a full investigation will not take place and nothing will happen. Some citizens also may fear retaliation from law enforcement. Supporters of civilian review boards is of the strong belief that the public will be more li kely to have more confidence in a process when a complaint is made to a group of civilians rather than by forwarding their concerns to a unit in a police force, and this in turn could increase the number of complaints (An test of, 2006).AREA translationThe sample for the study will be taken from intravenous feeding of the sassy York Citys Police Departments (LAPDs) 18 geographic sweeps. This area has one of the highest rates of violent crime in the city, and it is estimated that it is more than four times higher than any of the other areas that would be complicated in the survey. In census taken in 1995, area A consisted of about 120,000 residents, of that number sixty per centum (60%) were black and thirty-five portion (35%) were of Latino descent. Latinos have shifted into this area that was traditionally black in large numbers. The violent crime rate in this area is the second, and is infested by the biggest population of gang in the city, comprising of more than 8,000 gang members, consisting of about 45 gangs. Area B, nonetheless, has a below average rate for property crime between the four areas chosen for the. This area comprises of seventy -three perce nt (73%) whites, seventeen percent (17%) Latinos and eight percent (8%) Asians. The incomes of residents in this area is higher that the other three (3) areas to be surveyed. In the census done in 1991 the reported incomes were as follows cardinal percent (50%) had incomes above $45,000 and twenty-six percent (26%) had incomes above $75,000 (U. S. Department, 2003).METHODOLOGYThe researcher will conduct the survey via mail and face to face interviews. residential addresses will be acquired from lists at the citywide utility service and will be coded to allow the collection of addresses inside the four (4) geographic regions. The survey will comprise of a random sample of five c and seventy (5,570) addresses. The procedures for the survey will be taken from Dillmans Total Design Approach (Hoddinott, Bass, 1986), in addition to five contacts with possible survey answerers. A postcard notice will be sent in advance, four survey mailings of which two will contain an incentive of $1.0 0, and a thank you and or reminder notice will be sent following the mailing of the first survey. All survey materials mailed will include Spanish translations. The researcher will offer other languages in the event that one is needed.Mail surveys let the respondent answer at their own leisure, rather than at the habitually inconvenient instant they are contacted for a phone or personal interview. Because of this, mail surveys are not considered as intrusive as other kinds of interviews. The downside is time Mail surveys take prolonged than other kinds. The researcher will need to wait several weeks later mailing out questionnaires before he or she can be sure that they have gotten most of the responses. The face to face method will include personal interviews which have the ability to let the interviewee see the respondent face to face, it also has the ability to find the target population, and longer interviews may be tolerated by the respondent. Particularly with in-home intervi ews that have been arranged in advance, great deal may be willing to talk longer face-to-face than to individual on the phone. The down side to this is that personal interviews usually cost more per interview than other methods. This is particularly true of in-home interviews, where travel time is a major factor. The survey will summarize two (2) types of contact that the public has with law enforcement officers formal contact and informal contact. The formal contacts will include residents calling the police departments in an attempt to ask for service, when residents are questioned by law enforcement officers about a potential crime that was committed. The informal contacts that residents has with law enforcement will include conversations with police officers who are on patrol and interactions that residents have with law enforcement at community meetings, youth activities sponsored by the police, and fairs about community and public safety. The measure of job approval will be es tablish on a six-question scale which will be transformed from Skogans work in Chicago, which will ask residents how well police in their neighborhood and solve problems, help victims, and oppose crime (Skogan, 1998). The measure of the demeanor of law enforcement officers will be formed from five questions that asked respondents whether police were trustworthy, fair, helpful or respectful, and whether or not they seemed concerned. The study will focus on four issues that appeared to have an influence on the opinion of the public on police departments. The four issues will include the followingThe perceptions that residents have about the fare of crime, chaos and confusion in their neighborhood and the sense that neighbors have of customary trust and responsibility. The formal and informal contacts that residents have with law enforcement and their previous experience as victims of property and violent crimes if any.The demographic characteristics of residents andThe role that the media play in the perception that the public has on law enforcement.TREATMENT OF THE DATAThe data received from the survey will be presented in pie charts, and rating scales which will show the role of individuals in each group and their opinion regarding law enforcement. Based on the results received it could show that there may be a need for more surveys to be done in order to understand the publics opinion of law enforcement because the acceptance of law enforcement authority by the public is essential for the maintenance of public order. Also, when the public has confidence in law enforcement it could lead to cooperation between law enforcement and the public at large, and this in turn can increase the effectiveness of policing. It is important for the public to trust and support law enforcement because this will be crucial when it comes to law enforcements expansion and maintenance.STATEMENT OF LIMITATIONSIn order to measure the activities of local law enforcement, the raw( a) measurement of public opinion is important. When law enforcement and the community exchange instruction it can foster a law enforcement-community partnership that can be tailored to specific concerns of the community (Maxon, Hennigan, Sloane, 2003). The publics opinion of law enforcements activities, fear, crime, and identifying strengths and problems in the community is an important representation of law enforcement. Surveys need to be done on a regular basis in order to further understand these issues. Independent organizations are the ones who should be responsible for conducting these surveys in order to prevent responses that are biased. If these surveys are conducted over a number of years because this will allow for a recrudesce understanding of the publics opinion of law enforcement. When community residents are surveyed, this can provide important information regarding the publics opinion of the activities of law enforcement. As the above survey will show, this kind o f survey will provide a surprising amount of valuable information regarding the relationship between the public and law enforcement. This information can look in directing both law enforcement and the public alike and facilitate in monitoring the effectiveness of law enforcement interventions.CONCLUSIONData from research shows that the public will have more trust in citizens like themselves rather than law enforcement and that they will be more than willing to file a complaint Citizens will be more unprejudiced when it comes to assessing complaints from other citizens Their impartiality will bring into being a higher percentage of valid complaints that will discourage and aid in reducing instances of error by law enforcement and because of these actions the public, will have more confidence in law enforcement. Many law enforcement officers accept having a citizens review board as something to be anticipated and stated their willingness to work with members of the public (An exami nation of, 2006).The predicament for civilian review boards is that a good number of them do not have the clout and authority or the finances to make the first move on independent investigations of law enforcement nor to deliver judgments on complaints. For the most part all they can typically do is value an investigation that was performed by law enforcement and put together commendations about punishment. actually rare do they have any final say over the decisions of law enforcement management (An examination of, 2006).All in all, the majority of research studies suggest that if civilian review boards are given enough funds there is a much superior possibility that their work will have an impact on the conduct of law enforcement officers and this will in turn increase the publics confidence in the police. Even as there appear to be a broad-spectrum agreement that civilian review is a necessity in order to set up boundaries for law enforcement in a society that is democratic, this technique of citizens becoming engaged in law enforcement needs, to a greater extent, to be developed further if it is to be prove successful (An examination of, 2006).Three of the most important issues areInstituting and simplifying the level of authority that civilian review boards will hold and their level of liberty from law enforcementMaking sure that they get enough resources to Ensuring they obtain competent resources to accomplish their goals andInvestigating ways of addressing the numerous facets of racism by law enforcement. The main goal of civilian review boards is to accomplish a better balance between the publics participation in law enforcement so that they are held answerable to the public, and enhancing the independence of the police so that public order can be preserved in a peaceful and democratic society (An examination of, 2006).

Effect of Parent Addiction on Children

Effect of P atomic number 18nt dep endingence on ChildrenAntonio LathamChildren of P atomic number 18nts with AddictionDrug and alcohol dependance is prevalent in America. Within the U.S., thither has been an increasing emphasis and mounting research on how stiral dependency impacts the lives of children (Barnard McKeganey, 2004). This alarm is being powered in constituent by the escalation of disturbing incidents involving extreme knock off and abuse that children of dose or alcohol habituate parented subject them to (Barnard McKeganey, 2004). Studies now show that children who endure with parents who suffer from any ticker addiction are likely to be unstable, demonstrate severe stimulated and behavioral issues (Barnard McKeganey, 2004). Moreover, this present great ch solelyenges for children matriculating by dint of school (Barnard McKeganey, 2004). These children are frequently exposed to one or some(prenominal) warmness dependent parents that are unstable and ch aotic places where drugs and criminal application occur regularly (Barnard McKeganey, 2004). For U.S. citizens working with such families and children, it is important to recognize tenderness abuse early and confront the difficult needs of parents with substance addiction and those of their children (Barnard McKeganey, 2004).Over the last several years, researchers and advocates of childs rights have developed advanced strategies and programs that have facilitated innovative guidelines for a more efficient, cooperative, and holistic onset to helping the parent and child (Barnard McKeganey, 2004). This paper get out analyze the behavioral, academic, and growing problems associated with growing up in a household where a parent suffers from drug or alcohol addiction. Additionally, this paper go forth provide discipline on the connection between substance addiction and child neglect. It will also explore explains approaches for prevention, interpolation, and treatment that i ncluding examples of effective programs and practices.Behavioral, Academic, Development stuporWhen m separates or fathers abuse substances, this greatly impact the behavioral, academic, and development growth of the children. Studies show that these children are more likely to suffer signs of depression and anxiety, experience rational unbalance and display conduct problems (McKeganey, Barnard, McIntosh, 2002). All of these issues have both long and short-term effect in which will determine the life trajectory these children will follow. Academically, these children often score lower on school academic exams and screening different signs of struggles in school such continued conflict with peers (McKeganey, Barnard, McIntosh, 2002).Children of parents with addiction may demonstrate behaviors that are difficult for their addicted parents to effectively process (McKeganey, Barnard, McIntosh, 2002). This can produce unreliable parenting and the likelihood the child will be re moved from their paternal homes. Studies on childrens behavioral issues reveal that children of drug abusers exhibit some of the following characteristic lack of compassion for other individuals reduced affectionate inter bring through and interpersonal engagement low office and defiance against authority (McKeganey, Barnard, McIntosh, 2002).For straitlaced development, children need positive social and emotional reinforcement, especially from their parents. Children are more capable of reaching their optimal potential difference if they experience steady, certain, enhanced, and motivating relations with their family and other kinships (McKeganey, Barnard, McIntosh, 2002). A lack of this has been in the main linked to developmental problems for the child. For instance, when a child suffers repeated instance of neglect from the parent, especially during the young developmental stages, activation of the stress response systems is respectively damaged (McKeganey, Barnard, McI ntosh, 2002). The often result in the child responding to normal situations in a threatening or alarm manner (McKeganey, Barnard, McIntosh, 2002). wide-term Impact for ChildrenChildren of substance-addicted parents will often have lingering effects long into due date that will impact their maturity (Haggerty, Skinner, Fleming, Gainey, Catalano, 2008). Although it is important to note that not all children will experience long-term consequence, however, they may have an increased vulnerability. agnate substance addiction can have a plethora of long-term effects on their physical well-being (Haggerty et al, 2008). These include poor mentality development and increased chances of obesity and malnutrition (Haggerty et al, 2008).The more instantaneous emotional effects of parental substance addiction produce feelings of loneliness, depression anxiety, and an unwillingness to assurance (Haggerty et al, 2008). These can translate into permanent mental consequences in adulthood, incl uding low self-worth, insecurity, and relationship problems (Haggerty et al, 2008). Research steadily reveals an increased probability that children who have lived with substance addicted parents will eventually take on negative habits such as smoking, abusing alcohol, or engaging in illegal drugs (Haggerty et al, 2008).Prevention Intervention StrategiesTo end the cycle of destruction and decrease the possibility of lasting effects, researchers agree that there must be continued development and implementation of methods to prevent substance addiction from occurring and dangerously effecting children (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009). While experts concede that the causes of substance addiction and its effects on children are complex, it is probable to formulate prevention strategies that tackle recognised risk factors (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009). Prevention initiatives are best to thwart the onslaught of the mental and physical effects children are likely to have when growing u p in a home where a parent is addicted to drugs or alcohol. The best prevention method is identifying children who live within these homes and provide provide for both child and parent. Researchers encourage inspiring intellectual, emotional, societal, and physical experiences for children through various outlets (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009). According to Fraser, McIntyre, and Manby (2009), prevention methods should first involve understanding important principles of whole growth and development for children that will help to identify sensitive or affirmable threatening issues in homes and within the child. Academic institutions play a crucial role in prevention as well as intervention (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009). Schools should be adequately informed on application and interrogatory of educational and prevention programs as well bringing additional sensory faculty to the issue (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009).Once the issue has occurred, the next best course of action is intervention. Fraser, McIntyre, and Manby (2009) explains that because of the greater risks associated with parental substance addiction, it is especially significant for schools and child work personnel to thoroughly assess thoroughly the needs of the children to effectuate the or so beneficial change. Intervention revolves around providing a home environment that is safe, predictable, and nurturing for the children (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009). Moreover, intervention should entail family-centered treatment programs that provide care for parents in facilities where children are allowed and are able to aid in the healing of parent and child (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009). Ultimately, proper intervention will use other family members without addiction issues to help posit balance and harmony within the child.ConclusionThe body of research on children with addiction continues to grow and highlight legion(predicate) alarming issues, such as child abuse and neglect. This ty pe of environment affects the child in many ways including behaviorally, academically, and developmentally (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009). Though the effects may vary item on many variables, the potential for destruction create enough social panic for proper prevention and intervention strategies. Researchers are encouraging entrance recognition and responses to this epidemic in a way that effect home(a) policies (Fraser, McIntyre, Manby, 2009). It is vital for this nation to allocate as much resources as possible to the development and implementation of prevention and intervention tactics and services.ReferencesBarnard, M., McKeganey, N. The Knowledge Which Are Independent Of Our Culture Philosophy Essay

The experience Which Are Independent Of Our ending Philosophy Es advanceIt is important to for the first time establish that nonp areil can non analyse article of faiths and noesis together, especially in similitude to culture, thus they must be transcendlight-emitting diode differently because they argon both divide entities, in how they influence an separates culture.Culture is the behaviour, and article of tactual sensations characteristic of an item-by-item, particular, social ethnic conclave age group.1Culture is the society and values upon which one and only(a) is raised. It is built upon customs, uses, beliefs and ideas that are instilled in an individual by influential parties such as parents from childhood. These are all derived from imagination, knowledge and cultural values which are developed all over time depending on customs and beliefs. These then influence an individuals customs. Also, culture is split into two, individual culture which is the way one Its the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief.-Mohammed Ali2This is basically to take that once some frailg is reiterate to an individual over time especially by someone in ascendancy over them, they begin to bank and coiffure the said affirmation.Belief is something that is perceived to be certain by an individual but is non common to all individuals. According to Michael Woolman, belief is a tendency to accept principles one has always accepted regardless of record to the contrary.3Belief can be deemed double-faced because it is relative especially by stack who do non share the same beliefs.Belief is similarly say-so in the truth of what we believe in and it is justified by its working.4Belief is also associated with action, ergo, one must practice what they believe in.If I try to doubt all my beliefs, one day I entrust find that at that place is at least one whose truth I cannot doubt Rene Descartes5Descartes basically itemor that you cannot doubt your beliefs for there is a suit you believed in the first place. Over time, beliefs evolve from being just true beliefs and become part of an individuals belief system which is what people believe in, animate by their culture. Therefore, we cannot stand beliefs which are independent of our culture.Culture does not come through in a social vacuum but it inhabits a convoluted world where the attitudes and beliefs of those around an individual have a massive reach on every aspect of their lives. This means that culture, be it societal or individual is influenced by other beliefs from other cultures which end up an individual, depending on what the already present belief is and how closely related it is to the other culture. Culture determines behaviour, customs, values, habits and tradition and it meditates on every aspect of our lives and experiences.6There is a thin line between knowledge and belief in the sense that belief never leads to knowledge, but knowledge leads to beli ef. It is not possible for one to believe in something they do not know, however, it is possible to know something they do not believe in. For instance, in the late 1800s, the Kikuyu community of Kenya believed in naming people according to what they were good at, akin to the characteristics they exhibited. This is paradigm of a culture believe in something they know. On the other hand, one may possess total knowledge of what a religion other than their own stands for but may not believe in the tenets (the example of Islam).. According to Bastian Sue, Bammi Vivek , Howard Craig, Kitching Julian, Oberg Dennis, Wilkinson David and Salomon Manjula. knowledge is, a sub-category of belief and it is a claim that one accepts regardless of the degree of confidence, unrestrained intensity and sense of significance one may have. pThis is to say that for one to know they must believe. This only applies to the statement cognition leads to belief as it may differ in regard to other statements or claims. This is justified because knowledge is information that is factual and base on the truth. intimacy is the acquaintance of facts, truths and principles as a form of study or investigation also as to have a clear perception as of fact or truth.7Also, according to Plato, knowledge is justified as true belief. The greater our knowledge increases, the more our ignorance unfolds. John F Kennedy 3This summon by J F Kennedy implies that as we learn more, our lack of knowledge expresses how ignorant we are. To some extent, knowledge and belief are somewhat wish well in the sense that closely of the time they are both based on perception and on what one is told rather that what one knows for a fact. After research, I realised that Knowledge does not have a clear definition of what it is but rather related words like teaching are used to express it. According to geek philosopher Aristotle The one exclusive sign of knowledge is the power of teaching.Among the Ways of Knowing (Wok s), Knowledge by Authority and Perception are the most applicable when look at knowledge in relation to culture. Knowledge by authority is when an individual knows something from someone older, knowledgeable and in authority over them so much so to influence them. For instance, parents and teachers. Authoritative knowledge is usually led by wisdom because such knowledge is thought to have been tested over time. However, it is important not to pass over the fact that politics may also be wrong.Perception is the actor staffofapprehendingbymeansofthesensesorofthemind cognition, understanding or the spryorintuitiverecognitionor appreciation, asofmoral, psychological,or aestheticalqualitiesinsightintuition discernment.8Knowledge by perception follows the empiricism get a line that all knowledge is derived from what is observed. This is one Way of Knowing under which belief is and this is because with perception, one makes an observation and sometimes, it may influence what the individ ual believes in.Belief is the confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately supersensitive to rigorous proof.9This implies that more often than not, what is believed cannot be proved. It may also not be the truth it could however be deep trust rough something and they tend to buried deep within the subconscious with the result that they pioneer automatic reactions and behaviours. We seldom question beliefs because we hold them to be truths which have been repeated over time such that they automatically become truths.10This then means that people internalise beliefs from the people around us when we are most vulnerable and this is when we are children. This way of thinking can be fallacious in that it is an error in reasoning. In this case, the question of whether or not we can have beliefs or knowledge that are independent of culture. It is the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief-Muhammad Ali11According to Famous boxer Muhammad Ali, when something i s repeated and stressed to an individual then it becomes part of their belief s. The stressing and repetition of the belief not through by the believer but by another party who influences the believer to believe that what has been said is truth, thus making the belief part the believers conscience. The fact that sometimes, beliefs cannot be proved doesnt make them right, neither does it make them wrong because as much as there is no proof n its truth, there is no proof that it is false. For instance the statement I believe today is Wednesday is only true because it has been repeated to us over and over over again to the extent that it is now true although it is not a statement that has be proved right or wrong theoretically and scientifically. Therefore, it is impossible to have beliefs which are independent of our culture because culture and belief work hand in hand to make an individuals values, traditions, values and habits therefore they cannot be garbled and one cannot have beliefs which are independent of our culture. It is also important to line of work that the culture in question here is an individuals culture and not anothers culture, because one cannot believe in a culture that they do not practice because belief is backed by action. In conclusion, it is possible to have knowledge which is independent of our culture but it is not possible to have beliefs which are independent of our culture.

Docter Faustus Essay -- essays research papers

The truth that ambition and desire for tangible objects does not always satisfy the soul is a major mind depicted in Christopher Marlowes Doctor Faustus. The poem on paginate 93, lines 96-113 is the essence of this stalk. It describes Faustus meeting, what he believes, is the icon of perfection. This perfection is a mere gracious women, yet, to Faustus, she is worth his look. Marlowes engage of syntax and diction, allusions and references, and other literary devices throughout this monologue give support to the write up while adding rich symbolic images.&9The first example of diction in the monologue is the use of the saying, "the face that launched a thousand ships" (l. 96). This is a commonly applied typeface when speaking about Helen of Troy. Throughout the play, Faustus fluctuates between the use of advanced and lesser vocabulary. Here, he is so shocked by Helens beauty that he knows nothing else but this typical phrase. This implies that Faustus is in a state of hypnosis. He is taken over by Helens beauty, and in the process, loses his soul. Another simile of the trance Faustus is in, is by the use of alliteration in the first twain lines of the poem. This device causes the reader to read the lines more slowly. The pronunciation of words in a moderate fashion suggests this trance, and makes the rest of the passage more comprehensible. In contrast to the first two lines, the rest of the section cigarette be read more easily and therefore, faster. Few caesuras are utilized in this part, making the paragraph flow better. The quick pace of the these lines indicate upheaval on Faustus part. If this is the case, it is understandable how he loses his soul without resistance. The last line is brought back down to a slower pace. The word "paramour" lends itself to a laggard pronunciation, which enforces Faustus identification that his soul has been taken. This is all due to Marlowes choice of words and condemnation structure. Becaus e the reader can experience Faustus state of mind through the writing, they can relate to the upcoming circumstances. Faustus excitement of the need for the material aspects of life, lead to his downfall.&9Allusions and references also add to the comprehension and depth of this piece. Many references are do to familiar Greek mythology characters, including Paris, Menelaus, Achilles, Jupiter, ... ...ted at as being a demon, their kiss makes him cursed. In the Catholic church, relations with a demon is unpardonable, and in call on kills any chance of Faustus being redeemed by G-d. Because he treasured Helen for her material beauty, he had to sacrifice his soul. When he finally does sacrifice his life to Helen he gives a brief cry for help. He underestimates the damage he has done and screams, "Her lips suck forth my soul. See where it flies" (l. 99) He returns to her intercommunicate her to kiss him again, soon forgetting the damage he has done. This example of a litotie is contrasted with Faustus hyperbole of Helens magnificence. The juxtaposition of these concepts against each other prove that Faustus cared little for his ghostlike body, and more for Helen the material body. &9Marlowes use of strong literary devices in lines 96-113 on page 93 greatly supported the theme that only striving for material objects will only lead to harm. Faustus exemplified this theme in his Helen of Troy monologue, where he asked for her in return for his soul. In the end, Helen took Faustus soul, difference him with neither, the material pleasures, nor a spiritually complete life.

Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard Essay -- Literary Analysis, Gray

The Declaration of Independence contains a snipping about the equality of men a topic interesting to eighteenth century authors. The vocalizers in Grays Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard and in gold-workers The abandon Village utilize the themes of death and isolation in order to gift the different social classes. Goldsmiths talker idealizes and mourns the decay of country life, while Grays speaker equalizes the different classes. . This essay examines the contrariety between these two depictions and shows how Grays subprogram of stylistic features creates a more convincing argument. Goldsmiths speaker begins nostalgic totallyy for the loveliest closure of the plain, (1) by listing the towns virtues which include The never-failing brook, the busy mill, The decent church . (11-12) Goldsmith uses this imagery to contrast the current state of the village, he goes on to say that These were thy charmsBut all these charms are fled. (34) Here, the speaker urges readers to rede the impairment of the villages charms by destroying the imagery created by the runner 33 lines. He continues the description of the land as forlorn (76), precisely while the villagers were forced to abandon the area, the speakers nostalgia implies that he chose to leave. This nostalgia implies that the speakers depiction of the village could be highly romanticized. The speaker likens the loss of the village with a much greater problem, The country bloomsa garden, and a grave. (302) He suggests that this is non an isolated problem, but an epidemic that is happening all over the country. The village is lost to make room for a garden and a grave the first belongs to the nobility and the later to the peasant. He goes on to speak of wealthiness formula This wealth is but a name That leaves our useful products still the same. (273-274) The use of enjambment forces the re ader to quickly read over wealth, the effect makes wealth seem less important which mimics the actual words themselves, thus Goldsmith suggests that wealth is of very little importance in life. Both speakers counsellor a respect for the sylvan class, while Grays speaker does it by likening the greats to the common men Goldsmith uses hyperbole to decrease the appeal of the upper class. Grays work is succinct and contains numerous stylistic elements that encourage readers to see social classes as transparent and not as limiting. Goldsmith portrays the upper class as the death of rural life, whereas Grays speaker portrays the classes as not being reciprocally exclusive.

The One Child Policy and Gender Inequality Essay -- chinese culture,e

Given the high kindle ratio in recent China population report, the abnormally uppity male birth exemplifies the persistence of son preference on womens richness behavior. Son preference rooted in Chinese agriculture-based delivery and historical feudalism, in consistence with the reliance on laborers and continuing the family line. sometime(a) people prefer to depend on their sons to get financial and sensible support, while daughters are regarded as property of their husbands family since the twenty-four hours of marriage. However, the wish of having multiple children, especially boys, was challenged by the strict One tike insurance policy in 1979. The One Child policy, also known as Family Planning policy, was implemented across the country as one of radical national policies under the administration of Population and Family Planning Commission. Based on the purpose of lowering fertility rates to ease social constrict and improve living standard, a married couple is only allowed to watch one child with some exceptions made for some ethnic minorities and hoidenish families. The majority of citizens are classified by ethnics and occupations to fit the specific regulations of compensations and punishments to obstruct them from having a second child (Li, J., & Cooney, R, S. 1993). This proposal eventually triggered a obscure introspection which chronically melted patriarchal cultures. The broad topic of how government activitys decisions altered social norms is discussed within five sociological studies in my essay in allusion to the impacts of One Child policy on sexual activity inequality. TEMPEST Essay -- essays research papers

The Other in the disturbance In order to understand the characters in a play, we have to be adequate to distinguish what exactly makes them different. In the case of The Tempest, Caliban, the sub- humanity slave is governed largely by his senses, making him the animal that he is represent to be and Prospero is governed by phonate mind, making him human. Caliban responds to nature as his instinct is to follow it. Prospero, on the other(a) hand, follows the artwork of justifiable rule. Even though it is easy to start assessing The Tempest in view of a colonialist gaze, I have chosen quite to concentrate on viewing Caliban as the monster he is portrayed to be, due to other characters that be not human, but are tough in a more humane fashion than Caliban. Before we affect Caliban, we meet Ariel, Prosperos trusting spirit. Even though Ariel is not human either, he is treated kindly and lovingly by his master who calls him my antique Ariel. Caliban, on the other hand, is called a tortoise and a poisonous slave by Prospero. As Caliban enters in Act 1 Scene 2, we realise his offense at both Prospero and Miranda. He is rude and insulting and Prospero replies with threats of torture. Prospero justifies his punishment of Caliban by his anger at the attempted rape of his daughter, some matter Caliban shows no remorse for. Miranda distinguishes herself from Caliban by calling him a social occasion most brutish and inadvertently, a thing that has only bad natures. She calls his speech gabble, but doesnt stop to adore whether it was she that didnt understand him because she didnt know how to speak his language. Surely Caliban communicated verbally with his mother for the twelve years before Prospero killed her? It seems that Prospero and Miranda expect Caliban to be appreciative for the knowledge of their language, but Caliban has just learned how to curse and justifies his anger by claiming justifiedlys to the island. Even though they obviously detest each o ther, Prospero needs him, as he tells Miranda We cannot miss him he does make our fire/Fetch in our wood, and serves in offices/That profit us, Caliban stays on because he is hunted of Prosperos artof such power, making Prospero the feared conqueror ad dictator. Prospero is the right duke of Milan and Caliban is the savage and deformed slave. They represent two different extremes on the fond spectrum that of the natural ruler,... ...e will let Stephano rule- showing himself to be naturally ruled, not ruler. At the end of the play, when he recognises that his choice of Stephano as ruler was foolish, it is not mental reasoning that has led him to this conclusion, but the evidence of his senses and experience. Caliban had mid lavish to function as disclose of society, but training him to become part of that society cannot be abstract, like Prosperos failed attempt at educating him with Miranda Calibans education must be practical and hammered home with his cause senses. If the s enses represent something natural and the mind represents an art like knowledge or in Prosperos case, magic, then we can say that Caliban represents Nature and Prospero Art. art object the need for control over nature is asserted continually, the ending suggests that art must ultimately come to terms with nature (hence Prosperos this thing of darkness I/Acknowledge mine) for while Calibans limitations are apparent, his wish to improve himself is promising, and his new relationship with Prospero seems to be more static and more reassuring than the resentment-filled and extremely uneasy jailer-prisoner/master-slave relationship shown earlier
